Each quilt that we create together is unique.  Any quilting pattern that catches your eye can be used as long as it works with the fabrics of your clothing items.  Please let me know if you have a specific pattern preference, and I will let you know if it will work with what you have.

All of my work (which includes design, cutting and piecing, quilting, and binding application), is performed by me in a pet-free, smoke-free environment.  For the most part, the quilts are machine washable, limited only by items that might be included (such as neckties).  I use cotton batting and a premium white cotton backing fabric.  Other backing fabrics such as flannel or a printed fabric can be used for an additional cost.

ITEM SELECTION

  • The number of items needed is truly an estimate.

  • It never hurts to send extra items, noting which are a priority and which could be alternates. I return any unused items.

  • I will create the design from an artistic standpoint, considering color balance and themes. However, your perspective always takes priority. If it is important to include something even though it doesn't quite fit the design, I will incorporate it based on your direction.

  • Most fabrics can be used in a quilt, including sweatshirts, sports jerseys, and moisture-wicking fabrics.

  • Items that do not work well in quilts include sheer fabrics, knitted items, and small items such as baby hats.

  • Please feel free to send photos of your items so that we can discuss if you have any questions.

MEMORY QUILT

CONSIDERATIONS

  • Number of quilts you would like

  • Size of the finished quilt(s)

  • Size of the clothing items (Men's XL shirt vs. a baby onesie)

  • Condition of the item - are there any holes / stains? Sometimes markings on the fabric help to tell the story.

  • Pattern repeat (solid vs. plaid)

  • Sentimental value of each item

  • Color scheme or theme

  • Variety - a minimum of 6-8 items is usually a good starting point.

  • The amount of fabric from an item of clothing is finite.

  • Supplemental fabric can be added.

T-SHIRT QUILTS

  • The number of shirts needed is determined by the size of the finished quilt - 20 shirts plus an alternate or two is a good starting point to create a traditional-style quilt that is comfortable for one person to lay under while watching TV on the couch.

  • Additional shirts are needed to make a larger quilt or a mosaic-style quilt.

  • If your shirts include graphics of various sizes, you might consider a mosaic design.

  • If the graphics on your shirts are larger and more consistent in size, a traditional-style quilt is probably your best choice.

  • Any notes or direction that you are able to provide (such as "Don't use the back" or "This is an alternate shirt" or "This shirt must be included" are very much appreciated.

  • If you do not have enough shirts, supplemental fabric or blocks that are constructed with remnants of your T-Shirt fabric can be created.

  • We can discuss which options will work the best with your collection of shirts.

NEXT STEPS

When you have gathered your items, contact me to make arrangements for me to get them.  I will provide my address if you will be shipping your things.  If so, please let me know when your package is enroute and your method of shipment so that I will know to be looking for it. I will let you know when it arrives.  Typically, I do not require a deposit.

I'll take a look at the items you sent and suggest a few designs that might work well based on any direction you provide.  I'll send photos, size, and pricing options.

WORK-IN-PROGRESS

Once I get started on your quilt which might be a few weeks after I have your things, I will text photos of the work-in-progress and ask you for additional direction as the need arises. I only work on one quilt at time and can usually ship or deliver your quilt within a week after I begin.  I can accommodate most delivery dates, so please let me know when you will need your quilt.

QUILTING WORK

After your quilt top is pieced and any borders have been added, it will be quilted on my longarm quilting machine in an edge-to-edge pattern.  Custom quilting working as shown in the eagle quilt below is available at an extra cost.
